How to Make Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls: Step-by-Step Instructions

Ready to bake? Here’s how to create these delicious rolls:

  1. Make the Dough: Combine the yeast and warm water in a large mixing bowl until the yeast dissolves. Add the cake mix, vanilla extract, salt, and flour. Mix thoroughly. The dough will be slightly sticky.
  2. First Rise: Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap. Let the dough rise for one hour.
  3. Second Rise: Punch down the dough and let it rise again for another 45 minutes.
  4. Form the Rolls: On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into a large rectangle, about ¼-inch thick. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the butter. Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long edge. Slice into 24 equal pieces.
  5. Bake the Rolls: Grease two 9×13-inch baking pans. Place the cinnamon roll slices in the pans. Cover them and let them rise in a warm place until doubled in size. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are cooked through and golden brown.
  6. Make the Icing: While the rolls are baking, prepare the cream cheese icing by creaming together the softened cream cheese and butter in a medium mixing bowl. Mix in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the powdered sugar until you reach your desired consistency.
  7. Ice and Enjoy! Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool slightly before generously frosting them. Enjoy your delicious red velvet cinnamon rolls!
